About Me

Hi, I’m Adam Coles and I am a hypnotherapist.  You’d probably already figured that much out if you’re looking at this page.  If not, then I doubt I can help you.  If you hadn’t already figured out that I’m a hypnotherapist, then your problems are probably too much for me and you should go find someone with a couple of PhD’s.

I should probably say something to give you a sense of who I am and how I think and what my general approach to therapy is; but, before I do that, I need you to make me a solemn promise.  Don’t laugh at anything I’m about to say.  Don’t do it.  I just can’t take it.  I’m a delicate little flower and I can’t bare to have people laugh at me.  I’m very insecure and I desperate need your approval, so don’t laugh.  Don’t you dare laugh.  Don’t smile.  Don’t grin.

Stop snickering!

Crap.  I’ve lost you.  You’re never going to see me for therapy now.

I’ll have to think of something quick… Banana!  No.  That’s probably not it.  That’s not going to impress anyone.  That’s not going to convince you to come see me.  What to do…

You know what?  You should probably just go away.  I’m probably not going to impress you here with anything I write.  Shoo!  Go on!  Get out of here!

What?  You’re still reading?  You don’t know quite what to make of me?  You can’t figure out what my incoherent babbling has to do with hypnotherapy?

Those answers are actually quite simple if you really want them.  Do you really want them?  No?  OK.  Bye!

Why are you still here?  You don’t really want the answers, do you?

Fine.  I’ll give you the answers if you really want.  You don’t have to give me that look.  You don’t have to pout.  I give up.  I’ll tell you what I’m babbling about.

I’m a silly person.  I’d rather go out and enjoy my life than be too serious.  You may think that that’s a pretty lousy trait in a therapist; but, in my experience, nothing could be farther from the truth.  I’ve seen the way that seriousness holds problems in place.  If you’re thinking your problem is a big deal, of course it seems hard to change!  But, if you’re laughing at your problem, that’s when change becomes easy.  A problem that you can laugh at is a problem that you can change.

For that reason, I believe that self-improvement work is too important to take seriously.

I guess you really just need to ask yourself: “Would I rather a serious therapist or an effective one?  Would I rather talk about my problems for hours on end and get upset about them or would I rather laugh at them until they seem manageable?”

I think the answers are pretty obvious.  But, what do I know?  I’m a nut job.  You probably don’t want to work with me.  You should just leave.  Go on!  Leave!  Forget about me!  Don’t think about me any more!  Don’t give me the chance to prove that I know what I’m talking about!  Don’t let me help you!  Scram!  I didn’t want to help you anyway.

Why on earth are you still reading?  Have I actually impressed you?  Are you seriously considering seeing me?  Really?  Why would you do that?  It’s not like my explanations make sense, is it?  Nah.  I’m just a nut job.  You’re probably better off without my help.  You don’t really want to change anyway, right?

Do you want to know a little bit more about me?  Fine.  I give up.  I’ll be serious for a minute.

I live near Martinsburg, WV with my wife and 5 yr. old son.  I have completed the Advanced Hypnotherapy Training Class offered by the Hypnosis Motivation Institute and I’m just waiting on paperwork to get my certification and business license.  Until I receive those, I will be offering free hypnosis sessions to get in as much practice as possible before I start charging.

I have completed the following AHA Specialty Certification Classes:
